The Uk's most dog-friendly restaurants to try in 2021

Pets are part of the family and, as a nation of animal lovers, the most dog-friendly restaurants have been revealed to Brits who love dining and drinking with their furry companions.

The UK is well known as being a nation of dog lovers, which prompted Groubook, the UK's first dedicated platform for group bookings, to research and reveal some of the most dog-friendly restaurants in the UK.

A spokesperson for Groubook said: “With the uncertainty of Brexit and COVID-19, it’s been a tough year for the hospitality industry, and the future of the industry is less known.

“For restaurants and customers, the focus needs to be on enjoying socialising again in a safe way, and what better way than with your pets, who are of course part of the family.

“It’s not uncommon for restaurants to offer a gourmet menu not only for humans but for hungry hounds too.

“So we’ve searched across the UK to find a selection of the best dog-friendly pubs and restaurants around. We have chosen places where the staff really love dogs and want to create an experience for their doggy customers.”

Dog-friendly restaurants in the UK are becoming increasingly popular, and in some places, it’s considered a little odd to enter a pub and not be able to bring your furry friend along with you.

Driven by consumer demand, there has been an increase in dog-friendly dining options and restaurant staff have reported customers ordering everything from dog-friendly cheeseboards and even steaks for their pampered pooches.

Dog birthday parties are now a thing, as well as dedicated cafes for dogs and cats.

Brits no longer need to leave their best friend at home with these pup-friendly places. From high-end stately homes to rural retreats, here are Groubook’s best places to treat your dog to a day out.

The Hairy Dog - Minehead, Somerset

The name alone gives it away that this place is super dog-friendly. This award-winning, dog-friendly pub offers tasty dog treats that are sometimes hiding behind the bar! Just ask the staff.

Serving fine ales and excellent food, there’s a big beer garden with a children’s play area. Truly a pub for the whole family, pooch included!

The Egerton House Hotel – London

The trendy Egerton House Hotel offers perhaps one of the most creative, indulgent experiences for dogs in the UK. Whilst you enjoy your afternoon tea, so can your canine companion as dogs are welcomed to enjoy their very own Doggy Afternoon Tea. It will look like yours and even features three delectable courses: meatloaf, biscuits, and ice cream. This is one for a special occasion!

Bistro Guy – Gillygate, York

Quality, home-cooked meals are on the menu here. But, what makes this place one of the most dog-friendly restaurants in the UK is the fact that they cater as much to dogs just as they do humans. With the garden offering the best seats in the house, dogs are welcome to roam free here and all doggy refreshments are on the house.

Gaucho – London

A mainstream option, this upscale Argentinian steak restaurant might not seem like one of the most dog-friendly restaurants on the outside. But believe us when we say it is! They have even launched a dog menu called ‘The Muttropolitan’. On Sundays, to celebrate your dog, they ask you to even book a table under the dog’s name!

Rick Stein, Fistral – Newquay, Cornwall

If you’re visiting the shores of Newquay in Cornwall on a staycation, then dog lovers should visit Rick Stein. The beach and town are great for dogs, and the restaurants even better. Outdoor seating is available for dogs who want some fresh air, but they’re very welcome inside as well. The locals pride themselves on being dog friendly, so after lunch, head over to any of the many dog-friendly shops beside the restaurant.

Hall & Woodhouse – Bath, Somerset

Bath is a beautiful city with lots of scenic walks, so after a long walk why not treat your furry friend to a tranquil time at Hall & Woodhouse. This is one of the most stunning dog-friendly restaurants in the UK. A grand glass ceiling, spiral staircase, and a roof terrace can be enjoyed whilst you and your pooch can indulge in delicious dishes.
